AI video generation moved faster in 2026 than any other corner of AI. Native audio became standard, single clips stretched from a few seconds to 30, and the biggest consumer name in the category, OpenAI's Sora, was shut down. If you last compared text-to-video tools a year ago, almost everything you knew is out of date.
This guide covers generation only: models that turn a text prompt, an image or a set of references into new footage. If you need to edit, caption or repurpose video you already shot, read our best AI video tools for editing guide instead. Prices and model versions below were checked against each vendor's own pages in early October 2026.

The best AI video generators reviewed
#1 Overall
Google Veo 3.1 + Gemini Omni
Limited free tier + Google AI Pro $19.99/moGoogle's video stack lives in Flow, its AI filmmaking app. Veo 3.1 remains the flagship Veo model, generating video with synchronized dialogue, sound effects and ambience in a single pass, with Fast and Quality modes depending on how many credits you want to spend. In May 2026 Google added Gemini Omni at I/O, a new model family that takes text, images, audio and video as input and lets you edit a clip conversationally instead of re-prompting from scratch.
The August release of Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash added scene extension in 10-second steps up to 40 seconds, first and last frame control, cheap 360p drafts and 4K upscaling. That combination of top-tier realism, built-in sound and an editing loop that understands what is already in the shot is why Google takes the top spot. Access comes through Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscriptions, so if you already pay for Gemini you probably have some video credits waiting.
Strengths
- Native audio with convincing lip sync and sound design
- Conversational editing and scene extension with Gemini Omni
- Frames-to-video and ingredients-to-video for consistency
- Bundled with Gemini, storage and other Google AI perks
Limitations
- Credit costs vary a lot between Fast and Quality modes
- Best features and 4K upscaling sit on the pricier tiers
- Plan names and credit allowances change often
#2 Best Value
Kling 3.0
Free + Standard from $6.99/moKling has been the price-to-quality leader for two years, and Kling 3.0 widened the gap. It generates 3 to 15 second clips with native audio (dialogue, ambience and effects with lip sync), supports multi-shot generation so you can build a scene with several camera setups in one request, and outputs native 4K. The Omni variant handles reference-driven work when you need a character or product to stay consistent.
Kling is also mid-upgrade. Kling 4.0 Flash opened to a limited group on September 28, and Kling says the full 4.0 model launches in October with clips up to 30 seconds, up to 10 keyframes and 10-bit HDR. Whichever version you land on, the motion quality on people, fabric and physical interactions is consistently among the best available. If you are choosing between it and Runway, our Kling vs Runway comparison goes deeper.
Strengths
- Excellent human motion and physical realism
- Multi-shot scenes and native audio in one generation
- Native 4K output
- Low entry price with commercial use from Standard up
Limitations
- Free plan output is not licensed for commercial use
- Credit costs climb quickly at 4K and with audio
- Version names and features are in flux during the 4.0 rollout
#3 Pro Workflow
Runway Gen-4.5
Free (125 credits) + Standard $15/moRunway is less a single model and more a production environment. Gen-4.5 is its own text-to-video and image-to-video model, built for cinematic shots with strong prompt adherence. Aleph 2.0, launched in May 2026 alongside the new Edit Studio, edits footage you already have: change lighting, swap objects, restyle a shot or add elements while keeping everything else intact.
The other reason professionals stay is breadth. The same credits now run third-party models including Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.5, and Runway ships integrations like a DaVinci Resolve plugin and frame-rate conversion up to 4K. Standard is $15/month ($12 billed annually) with 625 credits, Pro is $35/month, and Max adds early access to new models. For teams that generate and then finish in the same tool, nothing else is as complete.
Strengths
- Generation and in-context editing (Aleph 2.0) in one app
- Access to Kling and Seedance models on the same plan
- Professional integrations, including DaVinci Resolve
- Mature tooling for teams, brand kits and projects
Limitations
- Credits disappear fast on premium third-party models
- Free plan is a one-time 125 credits, not monthly
- More interface to learn than single-purpose generators
#4 Long Clips
Seedance 2.5
Free daily credits + paid plans (Dreamina)Seedance is ByteDance's video model family, and version 2.5 launched globally on Dreamina, ByteDance's creative platform from the CapCut team, on July 31, 2026. Its headline feature is native 30-second clips, which means fewer generations stitched together and less visual drift between them. It also accepts up to 50 multimodal references, supports 4K output and adds local editing so you can fix part of a clip without regenerating the whole thing.
Seedance has also become the model other platforms license. You can run it inside Runway, Luma and Pika, which is handy if you already pay for one of those. Dreamina itself is usually the cheapest place to use it, and runs frequent promotions, but prices differ by region and are only shown after you sign in, so check your own account before comparing.
Strengths
- Native 30-second single clips
- Very large reference capacity for consistent characters and products
- Available on Dreamina and inside several other platforms
- Fast draft modes for cheap iteration
Limitations
- Regional pricing makes cost comparisons awkward
- Free-tier output is watermarked
- Best results need well-prepared reference material
#5 Audio + 2K
Hailuo 3.0 (MiniMax H3)
Free credits + paid plansHailuo is MiniMax's video app, and its third-generation model, H3 (also called Hailuo 3.0), went public on July 31, 2026. It renders native 2K at 24fps with synchronized stereo audio in one pass, produces clips from 4 to 15 seconds, and accepts a mix of up to nine images plus video and audio clips as references. Hailuo 2.3 and its Fast variant remain available for cheaper drafts.
What makes H3 unusual is openness: MiniMax published H3-Base weights on Hugging Face in August under its community license, so technical teams can experiment locally while everyone else uses the hosted app. The model has spread quickly too, appearing in Luma and Pika. Hailuo has always been strong at expressive motion and dramatic camera moves, and H3 keeps that character while closing the gap on resolution.
Strengths
- Native 2K output with built-in synchronized audio
- Rich multimodal references (images, video and audio)
- Open base weights for technical users
- Older Hailuo 2.3 models stay available for cheap iteration
Limitations
- Community license, not a permissive open-source license
- Plan pricing changes frequently with promotions
- 15-second cap is shorter than Seedance or Kling 4.0
#6 Keyframes & HDR
Luma Dream Machine (Ray3.2)
Plus $30/mo, no free planLuma builds its own Ray models and aims them at filmmakers who care about control. Ray3.14 brought native 1080p in January 2026 and was faster and cheaper than the original Ray3. Ray3.2, released in June, adds up to 16 keyframes inside a single clip for precise choreography, plus an HDR pipeline with EXR export that colorists can actually grade.
Luma's subscription now also covers third-party models, including Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0, Seedance and MiniMax H3, so one plan gives you several engines to compare on the same shot. There is no free tier: Plus is $30/month ($25 billed yearly) and every individual plan includes commercial use. It is not the cheapest way in, but it is one of the most flexible.
Strengths
- Up to 16 keyframes for exact motion control
- HDR and EXR export for professional grading
- Multiple third-party models under one subscription
- Commercial use on every individual plan
Limitations
- No free plan to test before paying
- Higher entry price than Kling or Pika
- Advanced controls take time to learn
#7 Social Creators
Pika
Free + Starter $10/moPika rebuilt pika.art on September 17, 2026 as a multi-app studio. Instead of a blank prompt box you pick a task: Video Studio for multi-shot videos up to 30 seconds with sound, Camera Director to reshoot a scene from new angles, Relight, Product Shot and more than 20 other apps. Under the hood it routes between its own Pika 2.5 model and licensed models such as Seedance and MiniMax H3.
Pika also launched its own audio models this year (soundtrack, music, effects and speech), which matters if your clips need to be postable straight away. Starter is $10/month ($8 yearly), but note that commercial use starts on the $35 Creator plan. If you are weighing it against a heavier pro tool, see Runway vs Pika.
Strengths
- Task-based apps that are fast for non-experts
- Multi-shot videos with sound in Video Studio
- Mix of Pika and leading third-party models
- Low entry price and no watermark on any plan
Limitations
- Commercial use only from the Creator plan up
- Free plan has no monthly credits (packs only)
- Less fine-grained control than Runway or Luma
#8 Developers
Wan (Alibaba)
Open weights (Wan 2.2) + paid API (Wan 3.0)Alibaba's Wan family is the pick if you want to build video generation into your own product or run it on your own hardware. Wan 2.2 is the latest open-weight release under Apache 2.0, which makes it the go-to base for self-hosting, fine-tuning and ComfyUI workflows. You trade convenience for control, and you need a capable GPU.
Wan 3.0, released in August 2026, is a different story: it is a closed, API-only model on Alibaba Cloud that generates clips up to 30 seconds at 1080p with audio in the same pass. For developers it is a strong, cost-competitive option alongside the Gemini API and Runway's API. For everyday creators, it is easier to reach Wan through aggregator platforms than to set it up directly.
Strengths
- Apache 2.0 open weights for self-hosting (Wan 2.2)
- Wan 3.0 API supports 30-second clips with audio
- Large community of workflows and fine-tunes
Limitations
- Newest model (Wan 3.0) is not open source
- Self-hosting needs serious GPU hardware
- No polished first-party creator app like Flow or Runway
What happened to Sora?
OpenAI announced in March 2026 that it was discontinuing Sora. The Sora app and web experience closed on April 26, 2026, and OpenAI scheduled the Sora API to end on September 24, 2026. ChatGPT plans no longer list Sora as a benefit. If an older guide still recommends Sora for text-to-video, it is out of date: Veo 3.1 with Gemini Omni and Kling are the closest replacements for cinematic realism.
How to choose an AI video generator in 2026
Audio. Native audio is now expected from the leaders (Veo, Kling, Seedance, Hailuo H3). If your clips need dialogue, generating sound with the picture saves a lot of manual work.
Clip length and control. Seedance 2.5 and Wan 3.0 reach 30 seconds per clip, Gemini Omni extends scenes to 40 seconds, and Kling 4.0 is heading to 30. For precise motion, keyframes (Luma Ray3.2, Kling 4.0) beat longer prompts.
Commercial rights. Read the plan table, not the homepage. Kling's free plan and Pika's Starter plan do not include commercial use, while every individual Luma plan does.
Platforms vs models. Runway, Luma and Pika now resell each other's best models. If you want to compare several engines without juggling subscriptions, one of those platforms is usually cheaper than paying for every model directly.
