Suno vs Udio 2026 - Which AI Music Generator Can You Actually Use?
Suno and Udio both settled with major record labels in late 2025, and those deals changed how each product works. Suno launched new v6 models trained on licensed music in September 2026 and still lets paying users download songs, with Pro at $10/month including 20 downloads a month. Udio has kept downloads disabled while it rebuilds as a licensed, walled-garden platform, so it currently works only for creating and listening inside the app.
Our verdict
Suno wins for anyone who needs to download and use their songs. Udio is only worth it for in-app experimentation until downloads return.

Can you download songs from Udio in 2026?
Not currently. Udio disabled downloads of audio, video and stems at the end of October 2025 as part of its settlement with Universal Music Group, and as of late September 2026 they had not been restored. Udio says its licensed platform will expand what users can do, but there is no confirmed date.
Can I use Suno songs commercially?
Yes, if you make them on Pro or Premier. Songs created while subscribed come with commercial use rights, while free plan songs are for non-commercial use only. Since September 3, 2026 downloads are capped at 20 a month on Pro and 60 on Premier.
How much do Suno and Udio cost?
Suno has a free plan with 50 credits a day, Pro at $10/month ($8/month billed annually) and Premier at $30/month ($24/month billed annually). Udio has free daily credits, Standard at $10/month and Pro at $30/month, but no plan includes downloads right now.
Is Suno or Udio better quality?
Both produce full songs with convincing vocals, and quality varies by genre and prompt. Suno's v6 is the newer model generation and is the only one of the two you can export from today, which makes it the practical choice. Run the same prompt on both free tiers to compare for your style.
Why did Suno and Udio change so much?
The major labels sued both companies in 2024 over training on copyrighted recordings. Udio settled with Universal and Warner in late 2025, and Suno settled with Warner in November 2025. Both now train on licensed music and have added limits on downloads and distribution.
