Vibe coding went from a joke on social media to a real way of building software. You describe the app you want in plain English, an AI agent writes the code, wires up a database and login, and hands you a live URL. In 2026 the tools that do this are good enough to ship real internal tools, MVPs and client projects, as long as you pick the right one for your skill level.

That last part matters more than any feature list. The market has split into two camps: browser-based app builders made for people who never want to see code, and agentic coding tools made for developers who want AI to do the typing while they stay in control. I've spent time with all of the tools below on real projects. Here's who each one actually suits.

Quick picks - 2026

App builders for non-coders

These tools run entirely in the browser. You chat, they build, and hosting is part of the package. They are the right starting point if you are a founder, marketer, designer or operator who needs working software rather than a coding education.

#1 Overall

Lovable

Free + Pro from $25/mo

Lovable is the tool most people mean when they say vibe coding. You describe an app, it generates a clean React front end, and Lovable Cloud gives you a database, authentication and hosting without leaving the chat. Visual edits let you click an element and change it directly, which saves a lot of credits on small design tweaks.

What sets it apart is the finish. Lovable apps look designed rather than generated, and two-way GitHub sync means a developer can take over the code later without a rewrite. Pricing is credit-based: the free plan gives you a few credits a day, Pro starts at $25/mo for 100 monthly credits plus daily bonuses, and higher tiers scale up from there. If you are weighing it against Bolt, our Lovable vs Bolt comparison goes deeper.

Strengths

  • Best-looking output of any prompt-to-app builder
  • Built-in backend, auth and hosting via Lovable Cloud
  • GitHub sync makes developer handoff easy
  • Visual editing for quick design changes

Limitations

  • Credits run out fast on complex debugging loops
  • Large apps still need a developer to review security and data rules
#2 Fastest Prototypes

Bolt.new

Free + Pro $25/mo

Bolt.new, from the StackBlitz team, runs a full development environment inside your browser. That means it can install packages, run a dev server and show you a working full-stack app while you watch. Bolt v2 added Bolt Cloud, so new projects come with hosting, custom domains, databases, authentication and file storage built in.

Bolt feels more like a developer tool than Lovable does. You see the file tree, the terminal and the code, which is great if you are semi-technical and want to understand what is happening. It is token-based: the free plan includes a daily and monthly token allowance, Pro starts at $25/mo with a much larger monthly pool, and Teams is $30 per member.

Strengths

  • Very fast from prompt to running app
  • Full code, file tree and terminal visible in the browser
  • Hosting, database and auth included with Bolt Cloud
  • Flexible framework choice

Limitations

  • Token usage climbs quickly on bigger projects
  • Design output is less polished than Lovable by default
#3 All-in-One

Replit

Core $20/mo, Pro $100/mo

Replit has been a browser IDE for years, and its AI agent has turned it into one of the most complete vibe coding platforms. Agent 4, launched in March 2026, adds a design canvas, Plan Mode for agreeing on an approach before any code is written, and parallel tasks so the agent can work on several parts of an app at once.

The big advantage is that everything lives in one place: the code, the database, secrets, deployments and the running app. You never have to connect five services. Core is $20/mo with $20 of usage credit toward the strongest models, and Pro is $100/mo with more credit, more collaborators and up to ten parallel agents. Usage-based billing means heavy agent sessions can cost more than the sticker price, so keep an eye on it.

Strengths

  • Code, database, hosting and deployment in one workspace
  • Plan Mode reduces wasted builds
  • Parallel agents on the Pro plan
  • Real IDE underneath when you want to edit by hand

Limitations

  • Usage-based costs are harder to predict than flat plans
  • Interface is busier than pure chat builders
#4 Business Apps

Base44

Free + from $16/mo

Base44, now owned by Wix, focuses on the apps businesses actually need: internal dashboards, client portals, booking systems, simple CRMs and approval workflows. You describe the app, and Base44 builds the front end, data model, user login and permissions together, with no external database to configure.

It is the least intimidating tool on this list for operations people. You rarely see code unless you go looking for it. Plans are split into message credits (for building) and integration credits (for things your app does, like sending emails or calling AI). The free plan covers 25 message credits a month, Starter is $16/mo, and Builder is $40/mo, with a 20% discount on annual billing.

Strengths

  • Backend, auth and roles handled automatically
  • Great fit for internal tools and portals
  • Separate integration credits keep build costs predictable
  • Simple enough for non-technical teams

Limitations

  • Less control over code and architecture than Bolt or Replit
  • Not the best choice for highly custom consumer apps
#5 Best Free

Google AI Studio

Free to prototype

Google AI Studio's Build mode lets you describe an app and have Gemini build and preview it in the browser. It has become Google's main prompt-to-app product: Firebase Studio stopped accepting new sign-ups on June 22, 2026 and shuts down on March 22, 2027, with projects being migrated to AI Studio or to Google Antigravity for local development.

The appeal is cost. Prototyping in Build mode is free within Gemini API rate limits, and you only pay standard Gemini API pricing when your app runs in production. It pairs naturally with Firebase services for auth and data. It is less hand-holding than Lovable, but for students, tinkerers and anyone testing an idea before paying for a subscription, it is the obvious first stop.

Strengths

  • Free to prototype
  • Direct access to the latest Gemini models
  • Works well with Firebase auth and data

Limitations

  • Less polished design output than paid builders
  • Production use means managing Gemini API billing yourself

Vibe coding tools for developers

If you can read code, you will get more out of tools that work inside a real repository. You still prompt in plain English, but you review diffs, run tests and keep ownership of the architecture. For the full developer tooling picture, see our best AI coding tools for 2026 guide.

#6 Front-End

v0

Free + Plus $30/mo

v0 by Vercel, now at v0.app, started as a UI generator and has grown into an agent that builds full-stack Next.js apps. It plans, writes code, runs it in a sandbox, and deploys to Vercel in one click. A Git panel lets you create branches and pull requests from the chat, and Design Mode handles visual edits.

v0 is the best choice when the end goal is a production Next.js app on Vercel. The output uses React, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, so it slots into the stack many teams already use. The free plan includes a small daily message allowance plus GitHub sync and Vercel deploys. Plus is $30/mo with monthly usage credit and access to all models, and Business is $100 per user.

Strengths

  • Production-grade React and Next.js output
  • One-click deploys and Git workflow built in
  • Strong for UI and front-end heavy apps

Limitations

  • Tied closely to the Next.js and Vercel ecosystem
  • Usage-based credit can run out on long sessions
#7 AI Editor

Cursor

Free + from $20/mo

Cursor is the AI code editor most developers reach for when they want to vibe code on a real project. Its Agent reads your whole codebase, edits many files at once, runs terminal commands and fixes its own errors. Cloud agents can take on tasks in the background while you keep working, and Bugbot reviews pull requests.

Cursor is not a no-code tool. You need a local project, and you are responsible for running and deploying it. In return you get full control, any framework, and no lock-in to a hosting platform. The Hobby plan is free with limited agent requests, individual plans start at $20/mo, and Teams is $40 per user.

Strengths

  • Works on any codebase, any stack
  • Strong multi-file agent with codebase context
  • Background cloud agents for parallel work
  • No hosting lock-in

Limitations

  • Requires real development knowledge to ship safely
  • No built-in hosting or database
#8 Agentic Coding

Claude Code

Included in Claude Pro $20/mo

Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool. It runs in your terminal, in IDEs like VS Code and JetBrains, and on the web, and it can plan a feature, edit files across a repository, run commands and tests, and open pull requests. For long, multi-step changes it is one of the most capable agents available.

The workflow suits developers who like to describe the outcome and then review the result: "add Stripe checkout and write tests for it" is a reasonable single instruction. Claude Code is included with every paid Claude plan, starting with Pro at $20/mo ($17/mo billed annually), with Max plans from $100/mo for heavier usage.

Strengths

  • Excellent at large, multi-file tasks
  • Works in the terminal, IDEs and the browser
  • Included with paid Claude plans, no separate subscription

Limitations

  • Not for non-coders: you need a local dev setup
  • Heavy daily use pushes you toward Max plans

Also worth a look

Anything (formerly Create) is worth considering if your goal is a mobile app. It builds web and mobile apps from one project, generating Expo (React Native) code, and handles App Store submission. Pro is $19/mo and Max is $199/mo. It did not make the main list because the core building experience overlaps heavily with Lovable and Replit, but for mobile-first ideas it deserves a trial.

What vibe coding still can't do for you

Every tool here can produce an impressive demo in an afternoon. The gap shows up later. AI builders are weakest at security rules, data permissions, edge cases and keeping a growing codebase coherent. Before you put real customer data into a vibe-coded app, have someone technical review authentication and database access rules.

Cost is the other trap. Credit and token systems feel cheap until the agent gets stuck in a fix-and-break loop. Small, specific prompts beat giant ones, and it is worth exporting to GitHub early so you are never locked into one platform.

Which vibe coding tool is right for you?

Non-technical founder building an MVPLovable Pro. Best-looking results, backend included, and a clean GitHub handoff when you hire a developer.
Ops or business team needing an internal toolBase44. Dashboards, portals and approval flows with login and permissions handled for you.
Semi-technical builder who wants to see the codeBolt.new or Replit. Both show the full project, and Replit adds Plan Mode and parallel agents.
Student or testing an idea on zero budgetGoogle AI Studio Build mode. Free to prototype, then decide if the idea deserves a paid tool.
Front-end developer on Next.jsv0. Production React output that deploys to Vercel in one click.
Professional developerCursor for the editor plus Claude Code for big agentic tasks. Full control, any stack, no hosting lock-in.
